About me
Hi, I'm Hannah, and one thing to know about me is that I don't have a niche. Illustrating, video editing, sewing, clay sculpting, all kinds of general crafting… if it's creative, I want to try it. Willowbrook Wood is one of my many creative outlets, and the one closest to my heart.
I've always been imaginative, and from a young age I was drawn to the world and stories of Beatrix Potter and the Hundred Acre Wood. In 2024 I started Mick Makes, a small brand that became my outlet for drawing, sewing and clay sculpting. I sold sewing patterns on Etsy under the same name and took part in many markets around the Western Cape.
Over time, Mick Makes became more and more about my illustration, and my first woodland characters were born. That led me to focus on illustration and develop the world of Willowbrook Wood. My sewing lives on at Kalypso Sewing Studio, the new name of my Etsy shop.
My hope is that one day, all of this creating can become my full-time job.
The beginning of Willowbrook Wood
Starting with Oscar the Bear, Lottie the Rabbit and Ollie the Mouse, I created Willowbrook Wood as the home for all of my illustrated critters and creatures. I wanted to build a whole world around them, with places to explore and stories to tell. Being able to step inside that world matters deeply to me.
That's why every product is linked to the characters and their stories: what they love, what they like to do and where they live. Each one makes the woods feel a little more real. I hope that children and adults alike will get lost in Willowbrook Wood and all of its characters, personalities and stories, and that it adds a touch more whimsy, imagination and creativity to everyone's lives, no matter if they are big or small.
